To print in Microsoft Word Online follow these steps inside a generated document:
- Click File > Print > Print.
- A print preview of the document will appear. If necessary, select the Printer, number of copies, and other options.
- Click Print. This will send the document to the printer.
Document(s) did not print?
Even though a message in Microsoft Word Online appears confirming the printing was completed, the print job may not have been sent to the printer. In the background when a document generated from our application is sent to the printer, it is being 'converted' to a PDF document. Thus, it is being printed as a PDF document (rather than Microsoft Word). There are settings in some browsers that may impact the conversion process, causing the printing function not to work. Below are possible solutions to fix this problem.
Update how Chrome handles PDF documents
Sometimes changing how Chrome handles PDF documents will resolve the printing problem. To change the settings follow these steps:
- Click the three-dots on the right side of the Chrome browser and select Settings.
- Click Privacy and Security in the navigation, and then Site Settings.
- Click Additional content settings, and then click PDF documents.
- Select Open PDFs in Chrome. The change will be automatically saved.

Chrome browser extensions
Some Chrome browser extensions that facilitate PDF documents may impact the printing of documents generated through our application. If there is a browser extension interfering with printing, it is possible to remove it. Follow the below steps:
- Click the puzzle piece icon to the right of the url in the Chrome browser.
- Click the three-dots next to the extension. In the below example, Adobe Acrobat is used.
- Click Remove from Chrome and confirm the removal. This will remove the extension from the browser.

Update how Edge handles PDF documents
In Microsoft Edge, you may encounter document printing problems due to PDF documents being set to download rather than open in Edge. To solve this, follow these steps:
- Click on the three-dots in the top right corner of the Edge browser.
- Then click Settings. This will show a list of various settings.
- From the side navigation, click on Cookies and site permissions.
- Ensure that Always Download PDF files is unchecked (disabled). If it is not, then change this setting.
