Navigating the People Screen (WillPowerWeb)

The People screen is used to add all people who will be included in either the Will, Power(s) of Attorney, Personal Care Directive, or Codicil including their name, birth dates, and contact information. Ensure that the following persons are inputted on the People screen, one at a time:

  • Beneficiaries of gifts, legacies, and the residue;

  • Estate Trustees;

  • Attorneys for Property and Personal Care;

  • RRSP Recipients;

  • Life Insurance Beneficiaries and Trustees; and

  • Guardians.

Note: Testator/Testatrix information should be included in the Client Info on the Basic Screen, not on the People Screen.

To add a new person, click the Add New button on the left side of the People Screen. Ensure that you input their Name, Gender, Relationship to the Testator/Testatrix, and their contact information. The Relation input will be referred to in the WIll(s), Power(s) of Attorney, and Personal Care Directives as being related to the grantor as indicated.

Note: If you do not find the relationship you require in the Relation list, you can always just type it directly into the field. For example, try typing friend and solicitor into the Relation field, and right-click on the field and press Save to Favourites to add it to the list for use in subsequent wills.

You should also specify the individual’s Administrative Duties (as Main, Alternate (Alt), or neither) using the checkboxes closer to the button of the screen. For example, you can:

  • Add a person as the Estate Trustee, and then designate them as the Main or Alternate Trustee;

  • Add a person as the Attorney for Property or Personal Care, and then designate them as the Main or Alternate Attorney; and

  • Assign the beneficiaries for RRSP(s) and Life Insurance Policies.
