Navigating the Gifts/Legacies Screen (WillPowerWeb)

The Gifts/Legacies window is used to specify the disposition of gifts, legacies, property, shares, pet gifts, and other items and to indicate whether the gift is to be included in either the Will or in a Memorandum to the Will. The Screen contains two tabs: Items and Memorandum

Adding a Gift/Legacy on the Items Screen

On the Items tab, click on the type of Gift/Legacy that you wish to add. A pop-up screen will appear allowing you to select a further item sub-category (i.e Shares > Company). After making a selection, the Issues WorkBench will open allowing you to add further details about the Gift/Legacy and to whom it will be distributed.

You can add the Item to the Will or Memorandum by clicking on each of their respective checkboxes at the bottom of the Issues WorkBench. Upon selecting the Will checkbox, you can insert a clause for the item by clicking the leftmost icon (≡) to open the clause library in a pop-up window. Select the appropriate clause and press the OK button on the top left corner of the pop-up window.

By checking off the Memorandum checkbox in the WorkBench the item will be added, with the wording that you specify, to the Memorandum Incorporated by Reference document which can be generated in the Memorandum tab.

Adding a Memorandum to the Will

In the Memorandum tab, you can add a memorandum to the Will that includes the Gifts/Legacies in the Items Tab. You can edit the description text and items from this tab, select the paragraph in the Will in which the Memorandum is referred to, and to generate the document by clicking the Create Document - Memorandum Incorporated by Reference.
